All artists struggle, at one time or another, to find a balance between the demands of life and time to create. Yaddo, an artists retreat in Saratoga Springs, New York, offers artists a place to think, grow and create. Aaron Copland, Patricia Highsmith, Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, and John Cheever all roamed the grounds of Yaddo and used the time spent there to inspire some of the work we love today. More recent visitors to Yaddo include Rick Moody and Amy Bloom.
Shannon Clute and Richard Edwards have created Yaddocast“the Archive of the Future — a multimedia podcast series exploring the history, culture, and artistic achievements of Yaddo and Yaddo artists.” The Yaddocast features accounts of past visitors as well as interviews with contemporary artists. The second series of podcasts will cover the events from the New York Public Library exhibit “Yaddo: Making American Culture.”
